Backlinking Campaigns
The Facts About Backlinks and Why You Need Them for Internet Marketing
What is a Backlink?
A backlink is a link to your site from another website, creating a link back (or backlink) to your site.
Example: www.ponderconsulting.com
If this link were on another website, this would be a backlink to our website.
Why do you need Backlinks?
Backlinks are widely know to be the single, most powerful influence determining your search engine ranking.
How Can You Get Backlinks?
Posting on blogs, social bookmarking, posting in forums, your own blog, directory submissions, associations, Chamber of Commerce, DMOZ, etc. The list is endless really.
Are all Backlinks Created Equal?
The short answer is “No”. There is a tag webmasters use to add a “Nofollow” to the link from your site. While this still counts as a backlink, it does not have near the value that a link without the “Nofollow” does.
In Google, pages are ranked with Google PageRank. Backlinking helps build up this number by increasing the odds someone will find your site while browsing the internet. When a “Nofollow” is applied, that PageRank (juice as we call it), does not get transferred to the site it is linking to.
It is best to look for blogs, social bookmarking sites, etc. that remove the “Nofollow” tag.
What Make Good Backlinking Campaigns?
Good quality sites with high PageRank and that do not “Nofollow”the links.
